Staring Into the Void

Trying to find the words,
Lacking the energy to care.
Sitting in an empty room,
Nothing but a vacant stare.

Grateful for the life,
My progeny does provide.
Without the brightness of their eyes,
Would leave me dead inside.

The days are clearer,
With faith in the path ahead.
Yet in the quiet of the mind,
Finding a long forgotten dread.

The longing for distraction,
To escape what lie within.
Skin crawls, insides churn,
The shadow with its grin.

Persevere and hold true,
Keep to your daily toil.
Cut away the rotten shoots,
Let your roots grasp new soil.
